Most accidents happen at home; in the course of everyday routine activities, as
well as in the performance of DIY work, odd-jobs or repairs. Here, we appeal to
all concerned to adopt a cautious, sensible approach. The installation of
electrical or technical appliances is best left to persons qualified for the
job. TÜV Rheinland Product Safety GmbH looks after the safety and quality of
products. Our experts test and certify almost everything that can be used in the
home.
The GS and Q Marks are a clear indication of TÜV-approved safety and quality
- e.g. for furniture, for kitchen equipment, such as pans, for all types of
floor coverings, as well as for bathroom fittings and furnishings.

| Sanitaryware and plumbing fittings |
A bathroom is intended to serve personal hygiene and body care purposes.
However, in addition to these basic requirements, the time spent in the bathroom
is also expected to provide refreshment, relaxation and enhanced
well-being. Showering and bathing are only perceived to be pleasurable if the
plumbing fittings that need to be operated are easy to use, cannot cause injury
and do not put the user at risk of being scolded by excessively hot
water. And who likes taps which drip or are difficult to clean?
TÜV Rheinland Product Safety GmbH's experts have developed a wide variety of
laboratory tests and practical user tests to ensure that sanitaryware and
plumbing fittings meet all these requirements. The appropriate "TÜV Marks"
for fittings, ceramics, and accessories indicate their compliance with these
requirements and facilitate the decision-making process.
Are you a user or manufacturer? If so, contact us, and we will help you
achieve enhanced safety and quality.

They are constantly walked all over and, yet, this form of wear and tear is the
least floor coverings have to withstand. The wide variety of flooring products
that are available often makes life difficult for consumers and professional
furnishers when it comes to choosing the right one. Whereas products for the
home are primarily selected on the basis of looks, care characteristics and
durability, floorings for commercial contexts also have to comply with safety
requirements. In its laboratories, TÜV Rheinland Produkt Safety GmbH tests a
wide range of floor coverings made from diverse materials in various
compositions in respect of their suitability for the given context. Be they
laminates or linoleum, PVC with jute or foam backings, rubber or textiles -
these and many other flooring types are tested by TÜV experts to verify their
compliance with relevant EN standards. The variety of requirements floorings
have to meet in the course of the objective testing they undergo is a wide as
the load types they have to withstand in their service lives. The quality of a
floor covering for private contexts is verified, for instance, by one test in
which the shifting of heavy pieces of furniture is simulated. The 100 kg
furniture base used in the test for this purpose should not leave any marks on a
high-quality flooring when moved from one place to another. For commercial
contexts, aspects such as safety and non-slip characteristics constitute further
important testing areas.
Both the chemical and physical tests performed by the "TÜV"
are recognized, objective procedures used to verify product quality and safety.
They provide consumers with assistance in their purchase decisions and
manufacturers with enhanced marketing prospects.
Are you a user or manufacturer of such products? If so, contact us and we
will do what we can to help you achieve enhanced safety and quality.
