 The road Eastward has become "shorter" - at least in the metaphoric sense -
with respect to the export of German products to Eastern European markets.
Agreements already exist with Poland, as well as with Russia which serve as an
economic key to German manufacturers. The rapidly growing markets in these
countries offer tested and approved German products interesting sales
opportunities. The Russian Federation alone is presently registering an annual
import volume of approximately 40 billion dollars, of which 34 % is accounted
for by machines and plant.
