 KEYMARK - your key to the European
market
EUROPE is growing together - and that should increasingly
benefit manufacturers, the trade and consumers. Anyone who wishes to market an
electrical appliance on the markets of the EU can in future open all doors with
a single "key": KEYMARK is the name of the new certificate which TÜV Rheinland
Product Safety GmbH can issue for its business partners The European standards
organization CENELEC in Brussels has set itself the task of harmonizing national
standards and to produce standards which are valid throughout Europe. Under its
patronage, therefore, the KEYMARK process for electrical domestic appliances has
been developed. TÜV Rheinland Product Safety GmbH, too, has been audited by an
international team and, by resolution of the Keymark body, accepted as a member.
The TRPS was thus the first testing and certification body in Germany to be
authorized to conduct the relevant tests and subsequently to award the Keymark
certificate with the standard conformity mark.
If, in other words, in future a toaster is found in an Italian supermarket
bearing the KEYMARK mark, that means for the consumer that this appliance has
been tested by an internationally recognized laboratory according to European
standards and the production site fulfils all the essential quality standards.
With respect to series production, this proof must be provided both prior to the
granting of a certificate and also in annually recurring inspections of the
production facilities. For manufacturers the Keymark mark on their product means
that they can document the safety of the product throughout Europe with just one
mark.
