From DÜV to TÜV Whereas it previously operated almost exclusively
on behalf
of the state, in order to control the safety of technical plant or
motor vehicles, these activities today only account for a small part of its
total turnover, which is otherwise generated in the global business sector. The
beginnings of TÜV Rheinland Berlin Brandenburg go back to the second half of the
19th century. At that time, far-sighted entrepreneurs founded the boiler control
associations (DÜV) - a self-assistance facility for technical safety. Today, our
traditional task is more topical than ever before: we document the safety,
controllability and efficiency of technology. Our History 1872:
On their own initiative, several entrepreneurs founded the "Boiler Inspection
Association for the Elberfeld and Barmen Districts" to ensure the safety of
their production facilities.
1877: Consolidation of more than 80 steam boiler operators in the Rhineland
to form "Rheinischer Dampfkessel-Überwachungsverein (DÜV) Köln-Düsseldorf."
1905: DÜV inspects the first motorized vehicles and administers driver's
license tests.
1918: Activities are expanded to cover the mining and
energy sectors.
1936: The DÜVs are converted into the TÜVs (Technischen ÜberwachungsVereine), or Technical Inspection
Associations; Rheinischer DÜV becomes TÜV Köln.
1962: TÜV Köln is renamed TÜV Rheinland e.V. with about 600 employees and six
service centers.
1967: The first German subsidiary of TÜV Rheinland is founded.
1970: The first foreign subsidiary of TÜV Rheinland is founded.

form the new TÜV Rheinland Berlin Brandenburg Pfalz e.V.
